Our
Mission: The members of the family of St. James celebrate a Lutheran witness
to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We worship and serve in response to God's love. |
Upcoming Events:
-
NOONDAY COMMUNITY LENTEN SERVICES . . .
This Wednesday's service and luncheon will be held at Calvary
United Methodist Church, at 12:00 noon.
-
OUR TRADITIONAL "SIMPLE SOUP SUPPERS"
. . .
Will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship
Hall here at St. James. They will be followed by a half-hour devotional
service, which begins at 7:00 pm. The suppers began on Wednesday,
February 24. A sign-up list for folks to host each supper has
been posted at the information desk. Please join in this time of Lenten
fellowship.
- EASTER EGG
HUNT...
All of St. James youth are invited to attend the annual Easter egg hunt
on Saturday, April 3, at 1 pm at the Coleman's home near Wilpen.
Make sure you bring a bucket or a basket to put the eggs in and dress
appropriately for the weather.
- FEELING A TOUCH OF "CABIN FEVER?"
Some folks have commented that they miss getting together for our monthly
FAMILY GAMES NIGHT gatherings during these wintry months
We are
planning to bring back Games Night on Friday, March 19, so mark
your calendar now and plan to join in! Depending on the support shown,
we may continue gathering in April and May.
- THE NEXT PORK CHOP DINNER . . .
Will be held Thursday, March 25 at 4:30 pm. If you are willing
to help, the sign up sheets are on the information desk at the back
of the church. The dinner reservation lists are also available today.
- SEDER MEAL . . .
All are invited to participate in the Seder Meal Sunday, March 28
at 9:15 am. The Seder gives us time to pause and reflect on God's
promises to us. Sign up lists are at the information desk. We do ask
that all those participating sign up in advance so we can plan the food.
Also, you may wish to provide the food items needed.
- THE DORCAS CLASS MEETINGS RESUME . . .
Following their annual January-February winter break. All women of the
congregation are invited to join them for a time of devotions, planning,
and, of course, refreshments! The meeting are held the 1st Tuesday of
each month, and they begin at 1:30 pm, and usually wraps up by 3:00
pm.
- BLANKET DRIVE . . .
In order to help our friends and neighbors in the community stay a little
warmer this winter, Smith Oil holds an annual blanket drive. They are
collecting new and gently used blankets (no holes or frays) for distribution.
A basket for donations is in the side room of the church, and blankets
will be collected until the end of March. Be sure to find it
in your warm heart to help with this wonderful cause!
- FROM THE PROPERTY COMMITTEE . . .
We are initiating an effort to purchase new tables for the social hall.
The new tables are light-weight and easy to handle. If you would like
to donate to their purchase, please place your check in the offering
plate clearly marked: NEW TABLE PURCHASE. The new tables are $80 each
but any amount is appreciated.
Thank you for supporting this important improvement.
- RELAY FOR LIFE . . .
Representatives of the Ligonier Valley are gearing up for this year's
American Cancer Society "Relay for Life", May 7 - 8.
St. James' Team Captain is J. Alexander, one of our star relay "walkers".
See the Parish Notes for more
information.
