Our
Mission: The members of the family of St. James celebrate a Lutheran witness
to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We worship and serve in response to God's love. |
Upcoming Events:
-
NOONTIME LENTEN SERVICES...
Are again being planned by the Ligonier Valley Association of Churches.
They begin on February 17, Ash Wednesday, and continue for
six Wednesdays. The first three will be held at Covenant Presbyterian
Church, and the remaining three will be held at Calvary United Methodist
Church. Each service will be followed by the traditional Lenten luncheon.
The theme for this year's series is "From Fear to Faith: The
Story of the Prodigal Son."
-
OUR TRADITIONAL "SIMPLE SOUP SUPPERS"
. . .
Will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship
Hall here at St. James. They will be followed by a half-hour devotional
service, which begins at 7:00 pm. The suppers begin on Wednesday,
February 24. A sign-up list for folks to host each supper has
been posted at the information desk. Please join in this time of Lenten
fellowship.
-
SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER . . .
Will be held Tuesday, February 16 at St. Michael's of the Valley
Episcopal Church, Rector. Pancakes, sausage, three delicious syrups
and beverages will be served from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Suggested donation
is $8.00 - adults, $4.00 - children under 10 years. Proceeds to benefit
summer mission trip to Agua Viva Children's Home in Guatemala. What
is Shrove Tuesday? In the Middle Ages, Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day
was a day of celebration as well as atonement since it is the last
day before Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain
fat, butter & eggs, which were forbidden during Lent.
-
A TRIP TO SEVEN SPRINGS . . .
Is being organized for Sunday, February 28. SIGN - UP sheets
with very specific details are in the back of the sanctuary. Skiing,
tubing and snowboarding are all available. If you want to go to 7-Springs
but are not interested in snow activities, please review the information
on the sign up sheet. Interest for other activities will be gauged.
This outing is NOT limited to St. James members. Please pass the word
to family and friends. If you would like an electronic copy of the
sign up sheet, please call K. George or M. Davies.
- BLANKET DRIVE . . .
In order to help our friends and neighbors in the community stay a little
warmer this winter, Smith Oil holds an annual blanket drive. They are
collecting new and gently used blankets (no holes or frays) for distribution.
A basket for donations is in the side room of the church, and blankets
will be collected until the end of March. Be sure to find it
in your warm heart to help with this wonderful cause!
- FROM THE PROPERTY COMMITTEE . . .
We are initiating an effort to purchase new tables for the social hall.
The new tables are light-weight and easy to handle. If you would like
to donate to their purchase, please place your check in the offering
plate clearly marked: NEW TABLE PURCHASE. The new tables are $80 each
but any amount is appreciated.
Thank you for supporting this important improvement.
